Community Health Development Specialist

Doreen Ugwu is a public health scholar, physician, and health equity advocate whose work spans adolescent, reproductive, and maternal & child health, health behavior, and the social and structural determinants shaping health outcomes across the life course. Her research integrates population-based survey data, community-engaged perspectives, and an equity lens to examine sensitive and understudied issues, including adverse childhood experiences, mental health, and health-risk behaviors among adolescents and young adults. Doreen’s professional and research experiences span community-based health programs and academic settings, with particular attention to underserved and marginalized populations in both U.S. and global contexts. Her work emphasizes translating empirical evidence into policy- and practice-relevant insights that inform prevention strategies, health education, and equitable public health interventions. Through her scholarship, she aims to strengthen the evidence base guiding adolescent and reproductive health policies and to advance community-informed approaches to improving population health outcomes.

Volunteer Community Outreach Coordinator

Callie Cristina Mauersberg is a Colombian-American dual citizen born in metro-Atlanta. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Biology with a minor in Spanish Language and Literature from the University of North Georgia and a Master’s degree in Biology from Georgia Southern University.

Callie is extremely proud to serve coastal Georgia as GROW’s Community Outreach Coordinator. GROW’s missions supporting equitable access to healthcare and education are especially important to her, as she is dedicated to community health and improving quality of life for all communities, especially those which are marginalized. She currently serves GROW at their health education initiatives and in community outreach roles.

Since moving to Savannah in 2024, she has fallen in love with Chatham County and its surrounding areas. To give back to coastal Georgia, she sought to support communities which were not equitably represented in healthcare and health education. To this end, she became involved with GROW after graduating from Georgia Southern University with her Master’s degree in Biology, and has since only grown in her passion for accessible health and education initiatives.
